Nellie Cashman

Sycamore Racing,

In yesterday's G3 Suwannee River Nellie Cashman sat close to the pace throughout and was bumped at the top of the stretch which saw her finish 6th beaten 5L. She traveled strongly during the race but seemed to just flatten out after the bump.

Although she won her stakes at a mile and 1/8th as a 3 year old she may be finding that distance a little too far now that she is older. I'm inclined to shorten her up in distance back to a mile 1/16 or less and let her use that big stride to run the other horses off their feet.

She has come out of the race well so we will take our time in picking her next spot sometime in the end of March or beginning of April.

Nellie Cashman

Sycamore Racing,

Nellie Cashman had her final breeze in preparation for the G3 Suwannee River this weekend at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale FL.  The $150,000 race is contested over a mile and eighth on the turf and will draw some very nice fillies from the East coast.

Nellie is doing well and has put in a series of nice workouts culminating in a 4 furlong work on Saturday at Palm Beach Downs in 49.19 seconds. We won't know exactly who she faces until entries come out Wednesday afternoon.

Forest will be riding at Santa Anita this weekend for Graham Motion but we have been able to secure Graham’s regular jockey Rajiv Maragh who rode last years Champion turf horse, Main Sequence. So he is an able replacement.

We will let you know more after entries come out Wednesday!

Janine Melnitz

Greetings from Palm Beach Downs and Happy New Years since I have not seen many of you since 2014.  I'm reporting from Palm Beach Downs in Delray Beach FL on Janine Melnitz and how her training has progressed.  She has been doing well and is getting to the point where it is time to do a little more work and some quicker breezing.  She has been back and galloped out of the starting gate multiple times and has taken it all very well.

She has physically matured and strengthened a lot. Many thoroughbreds continue to mature through their 3 and 4yo season and she has the pedigree to continue to improve as she gets older.  Her tendinitis that was bothering her this summer has not plagued her this winter although be are keeping a close eye on it. We've been very happy with her and she has been training great!

If anyone is in the area of West Palm/Wellington/Fort Lauderdale please get in touch join us for a beautiful morning at the track.

Nellie Cashman

Sycamore Racing,

Nellie Cashman had a good day at the races Friday as she recorded her 3rd career win and first of the year at Laurel Park.  It was a much needed drubbing of an inferior field and what hopefully will be a big confidence builder for her for the rest of the year.

She stalked a scratch depleted field and easily pulled her way to the front turning for home to draw off by 3 1/4 lengths under urging from jockey Forest Boyce. She idled a little when she got out to the front by herself.

There is nothing set in stone right now about her next start but the most likely would be the G3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs onNovember 8th. It is part of the Downs After Dark racing series at Churchill and as those who attended her race last year will tell you is a fun night and weekend in Louisville KY.

There are a few other options for her such as a trip to Toronto Canada or Aquaduct NY but I feel that this race at Churchill sets up best timing wise.

She has come out of her race well and we have plenty of time to think about out options.
