Nellie Cashman

Sycamore Racing,

Nellie turned in a super work Sunday morning and loaded on a van this morning (Monday). She went the 4f in 48.89 seconds ahead of her next intended start at Pimlico on Saturday the 18th. She'll do some light training this week and then hopefully put in a big performance in front of the home crowd.

The turf at Pimlico was relayed over the summer and is much smother. They had their first races on it Saturday and my sources say it is very nice.

Hope many of you will be able to make it out.

Sycamore Racing,

Greetings from South Florida! Nellie Cashman is training well and has put in a handful of solid breezes this month in preparation for her next start at Pimlico on April 18th. She will be running in the $100k Dahlia Stake over a mile and it should be a welcome class relief from the company at Gulfstream.

This race should be a good stepping stone for her to build on and to take in some little local stakes in the Mid-Atlantic. The link below is to her work last weekend over 5f at Palm Beach Downs.

Janine Melnitz

Sycamore Racing,

Delighted a few of you have been able to make it out to Palm Beach Downs this winter to see Janine Melnitz. She has been doing well and steadily breezing towards what I hope will be her first start in May.

The addition of blinkers has helped her focus up in her training and breezing. We have also added a fancy set of glue-on shoes which has been the biggest help to her. These shoes give her some relief from sore feet and allow her to absorb a little more impact when she is training. She has been moving much better since we put them on.

She has been doing great and is starting to look and train like a racehorse recently. The plan is to breeze her Tuesday out of the gate and then have one more breeze next Sunday before shipping north on 13th of April.

Thanks,

Tres

Nellie has been training well in south Florida and is currently in a holding pattern while we assess some up coming possibilities for her. I am interested in shortening her up and trying her somewhere around a mile or a mile and a 1/16 as I may have suggested in an earlier email.

There are two options which would be very competitive and on the big stage at either Gulfstream Park (March 28) or Keeneland (April 11) but from what I'm hearing from trainers and what I'm seeing in races these two option could potentially come up very tough and Nellie would probably go off at about 20-1.

I will keep an eye on these races but I'm leaning towards trying to find a softer race such as the $100k Dahlia Stake at Pimlico April 18th. It would allow us to get her 110% and she would possibly go off as the favorite in a race like that. As many of you know the winter has been cold and snowy which has resulted in the mid-Atlantic region canceling many racing and training days. We would have a fitness advantage over many of the potential horses she would be running against.

There are plenty of big race opportunities later in the year and I wouldn't mind getting her to win a couple smaller races and then pointing towards Saratoga in August since she always runs so well there.

Janine Melnitz

I hope this email finds everyone doing well, although I'm sure you are all looking forward to the arrival of spring. I just wanted to give an update on where we stand with Janine Melnitz and her training.

She has been consistently training in south Florida and over the past couple of weeks has started breezing every Saturday morning. Although she had missed some time last year she is starting to put together all the mental aspects of training and racing. She had a nice breeze Saturday going 3/8th of a mile with 2 other horses. Although she was caught a little flat footed at the beginning of the breeze she finished up strongly with the other two horses. She has a good foundation of fitness but with this quicker work she will really start to tighten up and get sharper.

I have been happy with the way she is training and if she continues to progress I would be looking for her to be ready to run sometime in May.
